Who flies it
Three low-cost airlines on seats, plus TUI on packages.
Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet fly Birmingham to Palma as seat-only bookings, and TUI Airways flies it as part of package holidays. Jet2 runs the most flights, Ryanair is close behind, and easyJet fills in around them. The route carried 461,064 passengers in 2025, the fourth-busiest from the airport, which tells you how central Majorca is to the Midlands' summer.
That mix gives you two ways to book: a cheap seat with your own hotel, or a TUI or Jet2 package with transfers and ATOL cover. The airline line-up at Birmingham shows the full roster, and the destinations guide sets Palma against the rest of the island and beach network.
Flight time and distance
About two and a half hours, across roughly 920 miles.
Palma sits about 920 miles from Birmingham, out in the Balearics, which the low-cost jets cover in around two and a half hours. It is the same easy short-haul hop as the mainland Costas, near enough the same time in the air as Alicante. Majorca runs an hour ahead of the UK, so an afternoon departure lands early evening local time.
Block times barely differ across the airlines on a route this length, so choose on price, timing and baggage rather than a few minutes either way.
Summer peak, thin winter
Up to five a day in season, and much quieter out of it.
This is the difference between Palma and the year-round mainland routes. In the summer peak, Birmingham to Palma is one of the busiest leisure runs on the board: up to five departures a day between the airlines, led by Jet2 and Ryanair, from roughly May to October. If you are travelling in season, you have real flexibility on times and an easy rebook if a flight is disrupted.
Winter is another matter. Frequency drops sharply once the season ends, some services pause altogether, and what was a daily flight can become a weekly one. So if you are going between November and March, check the schedule early and do not assume the summer choice is there. For what is leaving on the day, the departures board shows the schedule over the hours ahead; for dates further out, book against each airline's own timetable.
Fares, seats and packages
Among the cheapest fares on the board, if you travel light.
Palma is one of the best-value routes Birmingham has. Off-peak, one-way seats often start around £20, and Ryanair and easyJet can dip below £16 in a sale. The usual low-cost catch applies: the cheapest fares are hand-luggage only, so a cabin bag or a hold bag adds to the price, and the airlines end up close once bags are in. Price the whole trip, bags included, not the lead-in seat.
With TUI and Jet2 both selling packages, it is worth comparing a flight-and-hotel deal against booking separately, since a bundle sometimes wins and adds transfers and ATOL protection. The summer school holidays are the dear weeks, so book those early, and the shoulders of the season, May and late September, are the value windows. Check your baggage allowance before you pay, and pack to the liquids rules to keep security quick.
Palma airport and the island
One airport, and the whole of Majorca within reach.
Birmingham has a single terminal, so departure is simple: bag drop and security, with the airport map pointing to both. You land at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), a large, busy airport just east of Palma city that serves the whole island. It has the usual coaches, resort transfers and car hire on arrival.
Majorca is small enough that nowhere is far. Magaluf and Palmanova are about 30 minutes west, Alcudia and the north coast around an hour, and the beaches of the east coast a similar drive. Palma city itself is 15 minutes away and worth a day in its own right, with its cathedral and old town. Wherever you are based, PMI is the arrival point, so book your transfer or hire car to it.
Practical tips
What regular Majorca travellers already know.
- Check the winter schedule before you plan. Palma is mostly a summer route. Between November and March there are far fewer flights, so confirm your dates are actually served before booking a hotel.
- Price the trip with bags, not the headline fare. The cheapest Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet seats are hand-luggage only. Add a cabin or hold bag online in advance, where it is far cheaper than at the airport.
- Compare a package against seat-only. For a flight and hotel, a TUI or Jet2 package can beat booking separately and adds ATOL cover. Check both before you commit.
- Book the summer holidays early. July and August are the busiest, dearest weeks on this route. May and late September give you the same island for much less.
- Mind your passport dates for Spain. The Balearics are Spanish and in the Schengen area, so your passport must be under 10 years old on the day you enter and valid for at least three months after you leave.
